Position Overview:

As a Scrap Yard Manager, primary responsibility is to oversee the efficient and safe operations of a scrap yard facility. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities, coordinating the team, maintaining inventory, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and optimizing the efficiency and profitability of the scrap yard operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operations Management:
   • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the scrap yard, including receiving, inspecting, Sorting, Processing, and storage of various types of scrap materials.
   • Develop, implement, and update Standard Operational Procedures to ensure smooth workflow, productivity, and compliance with industry standards.
   • Monitor and analyze production and performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
   • Coordinate the activity of all contractors and internal departments performing permanent jobs in the scrap yard with respect to scrap inspection, handling, and logistics.
   • Continuous communication and cooperation with the Electric Arc Furnace Chief of shift with respect to scrap mix and sequence of grades in the baskets.
2. Inventory Management:
   • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing scrap materials, including weights, types, and sources.
   • Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal storage and utilization of available space.
3. Team Leadership:
   • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of scrap yard workers, providing guidance and support to ensure high productivity, safety, and adherence to policies and procedures.
   • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team members.
   • Foster a positive work environment, promote  teamwork, and resolve any conflicts or issues that may arise.
4. Compliance and Safety:
   • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to scrap yard operations, including environmental, health, and safety guidelines.
   • Develop and implement safety protocols, conduct regular safety inspections, and provide training to employees on safe work practices.
   • Maintain necessary permits, licenses, and records required by regulatory agencies.
5. Suppliers Relations:
   • Interact with suppliers and procurement to resolve claims and maintain strong business relationships.
6. Equipment and Maintenance:
   • Coordinate with maintenance team the repairs of machinery, equipment, and vehicles used in the scrap yard operations.
   • Ensure proper utilization of equipment, identify the need for upgrades or replacements.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in business management, operations, or a related field (preferred) OR equivalent work experience.
• Proven experience in scrap yard operations, recycling, waste management.
• Strong knowledge of scrap materials, their values, and characteristics as per the EU-27 Steel Scrap Specification and Scrap Handbook.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Leadership abilities and experience in managing a team.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to environmental, health, and Safety.
• Medium/High proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and SAP Materials Management module is a plus.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
